Room to Read -- a non-profit organization that gives children in many developing countries the greatest gift of all: Education. This organization works with extremely low overheads (5%) as opposed to so many other non-profit organizations that make you wonder where all the money goes to... Through Room to Read the money goes directly to where it is needed, while the recipient villages have to contribute their own share through building materials for the schools, and labour and staff. Also, read John Wood's book "Leaving Microsoft to Change the World." It is the tremendously inspiring and compassionate story about the foundation of "Room to Read" and its impact on the lives of the children and their families that were given the chance to education and books. Three Cups of Tea -- One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time -- By Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. Greg Mortensen, just like John Wood, dedicates his life to bringing education into the lives of those who otherwise would never have a chance in life. Greg Mortensen's work lies in Afghanistan and in Pakistan. In June 2009 he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Please check out the website and read his story.
